After weeks and weeks of longing for my summer vacation, it was finally there. In the last week of August I started my 4 weeks of rest and enjoyment with all the free time I could wish for. One week at home, getting work related thoughts out of my head, focussing on relaxing, making long walks with Nikki and looking forward to and preparing for our trip to Italy. In week 2 we drove to Moniga del Garda, a small town at Lago di Garda, Italy. We stayed at a lovely hotel (Hotel Riva del Sole), with an owner and employees who where always very helpful, patient, friendly and smiled all the time. From our balcony we had and amazing view of the lake, which was very nearby (click on the picture above to get a good look at this panaroma). Even closer by, there was a beautiful swimming pool, which only a few people used most of the time even though temperatures were scorching, far above 30 degrees centigrade. I loved to hang out near the lake and the pier, which was very nearby and was one of my favourite locations to take pictures. The the following 4 photographs were all shot around that one pier. People and (water)birds seemed to life in harmony with each other. Only some (Dutch) tourists (probably from the city) panicked when a swan approached there little kid on the beach. Reacting as if their baby was almost going to be eaten alive by one. But most of the locals knew there was nothing to fear. Nearby the almost empty pebble beaches, there was also a small harbour with some pretty luxurious yachts and lots of sailing ships. Because of the extreme heat we stayed near the swimming pool or the lake most of the time. Cooling of when necessary. Taking pictures of nearby lizards at the lake. And birds visiting the hotel swimming pool for a drink and a quick bath. In the last few days temperatures dropped a little and we visited some beautiful locations. Several cities in which we saw a castle on top of a hill, an award winning park, a church and much more. We had a great time and will certainly return to this beautiful country.
